Avery Fisher Center Services for Faculty
The Avery Fisher Center provides these services to faculty, their designated additional borrowers, teaching assistants, and NYU doctoral students:
- Scheduled loans of videos for classroom use
- Walk-in loans of audio recordings.
- Course reserves
- Assistance with digitization of video and audio for course reserves.
- Guidelines on Digitizing for Blackboard
- Bobst Library Digital Studio
- Scheduled group viewings in our facility for students in your course.
- Reference and research assistance with our collections.
- Accept recommendations for new additions to our collections.
Borrowing Policies by Category for Faculty:

VIDEO RECORDINGS (Non-Reserve):
- Effective immediately, the Avery Fisher
Center for Music and
Media is lengthening the faculty loan period for video as follows:

Checkout Monday: Due Thursday before closing time

Checkout Tuesday: Due Friday before closing time

Due Saturday before closing time

Checkout Friday: Due Monday before closing time

Limit of five items per person cannot be exceeded.
- The extended loans apply only to non-reserve videos. Videos on reserve are restricted to loans of no more than six hours, regardless of the day of the week.
- Reservations strongly recommended for guaranteed availability. All videos must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
- Late fine: $5.00 per item per day, to a maximum of $50.00 per item. (For specific hours please refer to http://library.nyu.edu/about/hours/spring.html ).
RESERVE VIDEO RECORDINGS:
- Outside loan of six hours.
- Reservations mandatory.
- Limit of five items per person cannot be exceeded.
- All videos must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
- Late fine: $2.50 per item per hour, to a maximum of $50.00 per item.
AUDIO RECORDINGS (Non-Reserve):
- Outside loan period of one week.
- Renewable up to three times, up to a maximum of four weeks (but holds and recalls by other customers override renewals).
- Limit of five items per person cannot be exceeded.
- All audio recordings must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
- Late fine: $1.00 per item per day, to a maximum of $50.00 per item.
RESERVE AUDIO RECORDINGS:
- Only the professor, the professor's additional borrower, or the graduate teaching assistant in the course for which the item is on reserve may remove a reserve music recording from the library
- Loan period of 24 hours.
- Late fine: $5.00per item per hour, to a maximum of $50.00 per item.
COURSE RESERVE BOOKS and SCORES:
- Only the professor, the professor's additional borrower, or the graduate teaching assistant in the course for which the item is on reserve may remove a reserve item from the library.
- Loan period of 24 hours.
- Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, to a maximum of $50.00 per item.
CLOSED STACKS BOOKS and SCORES:
- 24-hour outside loan.
- The limit of five items per person cannot be exceeded.
- All Avery Fisher reserve volumes must be returned and checked in at the Avery Fisher Center service counter.
- Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, up to a maximum of $50.00 per item.
PERSONAL COPIES PLACED ON RESERVE (All Formats):
- Only the owner or the owner's registered additional borrower may remove the owner's reserve personal copies from the library.
- All others are strictly limited to Bobst Library use.
- Personal copies kept out of the library for more than one week will automatically go off reserve and will need to be resubmitted for reserve processing.
- Late fine: $5.00 per item per hour, up to a maximum of $50.00 per item. (Owners and their additional borrowers exempted).
SCORES MARKED Non-Circulating OR Library Use Only (from Floor-2 Stacks):
- Music Faculty and Music Graduate Students are eligible for loan period up to one week.
- Procedure:
- Take the item(s) to the Reference Desk on the ground floor (not the Avery Fisher Center).
- Identify yourself as music faculty or music graduate student.
- Fill out a special-loan form. (Separate form needed for each item).
- Proceed then to the main circulation desk on the ground floor (service point at the far left end) and check out with your ID card as usual.
DIGITAL STUDIO PROJECTS:
- Borrowers with faculty privileges may take video or audio materials to the Bobst Digital Studio in connection with their work of course-related multimedia projects.
- Prior to checking out the materials from the AFC, the borrower must make an appointment at the Studio . Phone: 212-992-9233
- Complete and sign the loan form at the AFC service desk.
- Return material to the AFC service desk.
