Management can apply to any area of endeavor, from personnel to information to sales. This guide presents selected resources from many related fields to help get you started with your research.     This excellent, comprehensive one-volume source provides concise information on a broad range of management practices and techniques. Written as a collaborative effort by over 200 experts, the material is arranged within 14 broad subject areas (finance, human resources management, manufacturing, R&D, etc.). Includes a detailed index.
  • Concise Blackwell Encyclopedia of Management. Cary L. Cooper, Chris Argyris, eds. Malden, MA: Blackwell Business, 1998.

    Usual A-Z format covering management practices and techniques. The first several pages of the encyclopedia comprise a thematic table of contents listing broad overall areas such as Strategic Management, or Marketing, that are then broken down into their component parts, with a page number for each component.

    This tool provides a comprehensive view of a wide range of ideas and methodologies that form the decision aiding fields of operations research and management science (OR/MS). There is excellent cross-referencing and as well as diagrams, charts, formulas and tables.

    This excellent handbook of management gives and overview and analysis of the state of management, it looks at the complexities and changing nature of organizations and the boundaries between management; present and future. Throughout, the book introduces the ideas and work of major management thinkers and writers, articles from practicing business people analyzing international best practice. The manual also includes diagrams, charts and a detailed index.

    Arranged in a single alphabetical sequence through five volumes, topics range from Accounting, through Inflation, Pricing issues, and Zaibatsu. Volume six gives a comprehensive index of the terms, concepts, countries and names that are covered in the other volumes. There is excellent cross referencing, and each section provides the names of contributing authors and a further reading list. Includes several charts, tables and formulas.     This one-volume work expands upon the 6-volume International Encyclopedia of Business and Management and The Concise International Encyclopedia of Business and Management. It provides information on how management theory has developed, and each chapter contains biographical details, a list of the major writings and a summary of the contributions made by innovators in management thinking (Porter, Nonaka, Peters, and Drucker, etc.) It has a useful table dividing the major figures into chronological periods and assigning each into a managerial discipline. Includes a subject and a general index, annotated references and further reading.

    This directory is a professional employment guide that provides up-to-date, clear, comprehensive and accurate coverage on prospective employers and career opportunities. The employer listings are provided in alphabetical, geographical and industry classification and seven segments, including employer branch offices, disciplines hired geographically, employers offering work-study or internship programs. This information is supplemented by a list of professional personnel consultants and also includes practical information on conducting a job search.
  • Consultant Directory. Charlottesville, VA: Standard and Poor's/McGraw-Hill: Money Market Directories, 1996-

    This directory provides detailed listings of the entire universe of pension consultants, with a special focus on those offering manager, trustee or other provider searches. It covers 400 consulting organizations. There is an appendix of information service firms and the databases they produce, and one which lists marketing firms.

    This is a comprehensive directory of more than 17,000 U.S. and Canadian consulting firms and independent consultants which offer all types of consultation to business, industry and government. Volume 1 arranges the descriptive listings into broad subject sections such as Abusiness and finance@, Amanagement@, and Amarketing and sales@. Volume 2 contains four indexes: geographic, by consulting activities, personal name, and firm name.

    This is the best directory for information on management consultants. It lists approximately 1,300 companies and each entry gives types of service offered, when founded, key officers, number of staff, branches, revenue range, and geographical area served. There are indexes by type of service, industries served, geographic location, key person. At the front are tips for clients and reviews of selected management consulting books.
  • Harvard Business School Guide to Careers in Management Consulting.

    This guide provides information on careers available to MBA students interested in management consulting, and gives a comprehensive look at management consulting career as well as job search advice. Commentaries provided by professors, students, and consultants will give MBA students a broad perspective of the management consulting industry. In addition, the company profiles will be useful references before and during the interviewing process.

    ABI/Inform provides citations and abstracts to articles from business and trade journals published in English. Covers business topics in general, particularly advertising, banking, finance, insurance, international trade, management, marketing, and real estate. Can be searched by author, title, subject or keyword(s). Updated every two months.
  • Business Abstracts (Wilson) Abstracts with Full Text; 1994 to present.

    Contains indexed and abstracted articles from periodicals, all with ASCII full text online. The database is comprised of selected full-text records from the following H.W. Wilson databases: Readers' Guide Abstracts, Social Sciences Abstracts, Humanities Abstracts, General Science Abstracts and Wilson Business Abstracts.
  • Datastream. 1996-.
    Bobst Ref 6 Standalone Computer terminal V
    Datastream provides data on the financial markets of the world: comprehensive company data, foreign stock and bond indices, and time series from the IMF and OECD. Updated daily and in many cases, historical data available for the past 20-25 years.
  • Econlit

    EconLit is the major bibliographic database covering the scholarly literature in economics. Contains citations and selected abstracts to articles in over 400 major journals, as well as citations and abstracts to books; citations to dissertations and conference proceedings.
  • Human Resources Abstracts. Beverly Hills, CA: Sage Publications, c1965-

    This abstracting tool provides information in current ideas covering human, social, and manpower problems and solutions. The literature is arranged in 17 subject sections, including: labor markets and participation; education, training and career development; hiring and personnel practices; work life and work environment; organizations and management; labor and industrial relations; employment and unemployment; human resources and society.
  • Inside Information (IIN) 1996-.
    This database contains bibliographic details from the contents pages of more than 10,000 of the most frequently requested journals held at The British Library Document Supply Centre. It covers 100,000 contents pages, cumulatively citing one million articles each year. The database is updated monthly.
  • Investext. 1982-.

    Investext is the world's largest full-text database of investment research reports. It contains detailed data and analysis on publicly traded companies in a wide variety of industries. The information is contained in reports written by over 1000 leading analysts at 385 investment firms worldwide including contributors in Asia Pacific, in Europe, and in North America, and Moody's Investors' Service Reports. Information provided may include trends, sales and earnings forecasts, market share projections, and research and development expenditures. These reports are not generally available through public channels
  • Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
    A version of the LEXIS-NEXIS database specially tailored for universities and colleges. Nearly 5,000 publications on the service span news, financial, medical, and legal information. The vast majority of the titles are available in full text, with a limited number available in abstract form. The service covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal and state court opinions, federal and state statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings such as 10-K’s, 10-Q’s, and their exhibits. News information is updated daily and wire services several times daily.
  • New York Times Index

    Contains the full text of the editorial content of the New York Times (the edition of record, plus any unique articles that appeared in a local edition). Includes the complete text of presidential news conferences, other important speeches as well as material from all four Times wire services. "Editorial content" is all articles, editorials and letters, but does not include stock tables, paid death notices, or advertisements. Can be searched by word(s) in the text of the article, or by subject headings, author, publication date, section, length, article type, or names mentioned in the article (persons, companies, organizations, geographic areas). Print counterparts: Bobst has a complete set of the New York Times newspapers in microform.     This is a descriptive listing of articles which includes materials on management functions, behavior in organizations, decision making, motivation, and planning. It consists of an annotated subject listing of articles, with an index by author. A few books are also described at the end of each issue.
  • Wall Street Journal Index
    Web, also Bobst Ref6 Index HG1. W26 (1958-), Bobst Microform Film/Per (1958-)
    The WSJ index provides abstracts and comprehensive indexing of all articles in the Eastern editions of the Wall Street Journal. Indexed materials include news items, columns, earning reports, and arts reviews. Items not selected for indexing include most stock tables and any editorial cartoons. For many columns that cover a variety of topics, only the main topic is indexed. The index is divided into two parts, Corporate News and General News. The first part contains abstracts of all articles indexed with company names, which are arranged alphabetically. The second part contains abstracts of all articles indexed with subject headings, personal names, organization names, product names and geographic names, all of which are interfiled alphabetically.

A detailed subject index is in the front of each volume and a separate annual Subject Heading List.
