Religion

The purpose of this Research Guide is to identify some of the more important reference sources available in Bobst Library for studying the major Eastern and Western religious traditions (including Native American and Black African), and for studying religion in general. The perspective taken in these sources may be that of an academic discipline, of a neutral survey, or of a particular religious community. In view of their importance for the various religions, this Guide also lists a few translations of the Bible, the Quran, various Eastern scriptures, and some interpretive aids.

Always use the approved Library of Congress Subject Headings when searching for books by subject in BobCat. Refer to the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) volumes located in reference. Subject headings may vary: for example, subject headings dealing with Japanese Zen Buddhism are:

  • ZEN BUDDHISM (or BUDDHISTS)--JAPAN
  • JAPAN--CIVILIZATION--ZEN INFLUENCE
